Full Moon party in Thai South cancelled

SURAT THANI, THAILAND, October 17 (TNA) - Monday's night Full Moon party, a popular event on Pha-ngan Island in Thailand's southern resort Surat Thani Province, has been cancelled, as international tourists apparently understand it is the mourning period after late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away on October 13. However, speed boat service still runs to transport tourists from Pha-ngan Island to nearby Samui and Tao Island following the cancellation. Some of the international visitors have remained on Pha-ngan Island although the beaches are quiet amid well-placed security measures provided by local police. Surat Thani Governor Ouaychai Innak issued an urgent order for local authorities to seek cooperation from business operators to cancel all parties for 30 days, starting from October 14. Late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyaej, the world's longest-reigned Thai King, passed away peacefully at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital last Thursday afternoon (October 13) at the age of 89. (TNA)
