Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street gain


SEOUL, Jan. 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start
Thursday, tracking a Wall Street rally in the previous session, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 15.94 points, or
1.44 percent, to 1,119.54 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
The U.S. Stocks bounced back strongly Wednesday, with shares from the financial
and energy sectors leading the way higher. The Dow Jones industrial average
soared 3.51 percent, with the Nasdaq composite index jumping 4.6 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,367.35 to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up
5.65 won from Wednesday's close.
