DIT, Tesco Lotus giveaway black clothing

BANGKOK, Oct 24 (TNA) – The Commerce Ministry’s Department of Internal Trade (DIT) partnered with Tesco Lotus, a hypermarket chain in Thailand, to habd out black clothing to people mourning the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The department’s director-general, Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, admitted that black and white clothes still went out of stocks in some areas. DIT is therefore asking clothing and dye manufacturers to boost their capacity to meet customer demand. She also vowed to take legal actions against suppliers selling overpriced apparel. Ms Nuntawan said the department has collaborated with Tesco Lotus to hand out 55,000 black t-shirts to low income earners nationwide, so they can wear black during a mourning period for HM the King. Salinla Seehaphan, director of Corporate Affairs at Tesco Lotus, said the giveaways will be held at all 109 branches across Thailand. Starting from today, 5,000 t-shirts have been given away at nine branches in capital Bangkok. Ms Salinla added that black and white clothing proved to be very popular with a five times increase in demand. More than three million black and white clothes have so far been sold at Tesco Lotus.
