RI TO ACCOMMODATE ASEAN'S INTERESTS AT G-20 SUMMIT

Jakarta, Jan. 22 (ANTARA) - Indonesia will accommodate the interests of ASEAN member countries at the next G-20 Summit to be held in London, April 25, 2010, a minister said.
"Indonesia as one of ASEAN's 10 member countries must, of course, accommodate the interests of all ASEAN member nations," National Development Planning Minister/National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Chairman Paskah Suzetta said here on Thursday.
ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) groups Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
Suzetta made the statement after attending a meeting to discuss the planned G-20 Summit next year.
Led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs/Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the meeting was also attended by Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Boediono and Senior Deputy Governor of BI Miranda S Goeltom.
Suzetta said that in line with directives from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Indonesia would propose reforms in international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
"Many countries have called for reforms in the international financial institutions, especially in their funding mechanisms and instruments in crisis situations," he said.
Last January 7, 2009, Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati held a meeting with British Finance Minister Stephen Timms to discuss the planned G-20 Summit.
Timms was reported saying that Britain wanted close cooperation with Indonesia in the runup to the April Summit as the world needed stability and economic growth.
President Yudhoyono attended the G-20 Summit in Washington DC, USA, last November 2008, to discuss the global economic crisis.
Yudhoyono at the Group of 20 Summit last year proposed the establishment of a Global Expenditure Support Fund to help developing countries maintain their economic growth and sustain development.
