National environmental strategy on track

Manama, Oct. 31 (BNA): Chief executive of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), Dr. Mohammed Mubarak Bin Daina, said the national environmental strategy is currently under preparation. An international expert has arrived in Bahrain in association with the UNEP Regional Office for East Asia to assess the environmental situation regarding air quality in the country for treatment of all consequential impacts in collaboration with all relevant bodies. Dr. Bin Daina said the SCE will launch significant initiatives soon to improve the environmental situation in Bahrain in compliance with Cabinet resolution which assigned the SCE the task of laying down air quality strategy. He told Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that the SCE is cooperating with the Supreme Council of Health to coordinate with the World Health Organisation (WHO). Also a joint team was formed comprising Transport Ministry, Energy Ministry, Electricity and Water Ministry, Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Ministry which are concerned with the impact of air quality. The Supreme Council for Environment will hold a meeting with the visiting expert. The SCE will prepare its national strategy for air quality in the Kingdom of Bahrain taking into consideration environmental issues in all future projects to improve the quality of air in all sectors including the sectors of transportation and energy.
