ARMY TO STEP UP SECURITY TO ANTICIPATE FUEL SMUGGLING



Kupang, Jan 22 (ANTARA) - Kupang Military Commander Colonel Winston Pardamean Simanjuntak, said here Thursday that his men would step up security in East Nusa Tenggara's (NTT) border area to Timor Leste to stop fuel smuggling to the neighboring country.

"The fuel prices in Timor Leste are higher than in Indonesia. There are possibilities for smuggling. Therefore, the army will increase security on the border region to prevent such activities," the colonel said.
Moreover, Colonel Simanjuntak said the decision to step up security was also related to a planned visit by Army Chief of Staff General Agustadi Sasongko Purnomo to East Nusa Tenggara for aninspection of the security situaiton in the Indonesia-Timor Leste border region, and visit the army forces on duty there.
