250 NTB PEOPLE LEAVE FOR MALAYSIA TO WORK

Mataram, Jan 23 (ANTARA) - At least 250 workers of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province left the provincial capital Mataram for Malaysia on Friday to two years of employment in oil palm plantations.
The migrant workers from West Lombok, East Lombok, and Central Lombok, were seen off by the head of the local manpower agency M Agus Patria.
He said the workers left for Malaysia by official means and therefore all their rights for healthcare insurance and reasonable salary had been guaranteed in official documents.
According to Agus Patria, people in West Nusa Tenggara had a keen interest in working abroad, that is why the Mataram immigration office is practically every day packed with hundreds of passport applicants.
Agus said he constantly gave guidance and advice to the prospective migrant worker, although many of them left by the services of brokers.
"Therefore, many of them fail to go after being deceived by the brokers who actually have no right to send them overseas," Agus Patria said.
So far, three members of the Indonesian Manpower Supplier Company (PJTKI) had been named suspects for deceiving hundreds of prospective migrant workers to Malaysia.
"The three are still being interrogated and will soon be brought to justice," Agus said, adding that every month the Malaysian government deported more than one hundred West Nusa Tenggara workers.
