BPKP TO AUDIT FOREIGN LOANS AS SCHOOL AID IN MARCH

Jakarta, Jan 23 (ANTARA) - The Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP) will audit the school operational funds(BOS) coming from foreign loans in March 2009, an official said here Friday.

"We are still preparing it. Coordination with regional representatives will be carried out in March," BPKP's Director of Foreign Loans and Aid Supervision Elly Fariani said.

She said that the government had allocated funds for the BOS program worth 10 trillion rupiahs, with about half of it coming from the World Bank as foreign loan.

The foreign loan allocated for BOS reached US$ 600 million and would be disbursed in two stages, with the first stage with US$ 300 million in 2008.

"The second stage will be realized after the BPKP audit had been completed by the end of June this year," she said.

Fariyani was optimistic that the audit would be completed in June as requested by the World Bank. Her office has arranged the manuals and programs supported with sufficient information technology.

She said the audit covered only public schools under the National Education Ministry covering 190,000 institutions comprising elementary (SD), secondary (SMP) and special (SLB) schools across the country.

The audit of school operational funds from foreign loans was requested by the World Bank and expected to enhance management.

"The audit will test the feasibility of financial statements and performance," she said.
