INDONESIAN LEADERS LISTEN TO LECTURE OF AMERICAN PROFESSOR

Jakarta, Jan 23 (ANTARA) - Twenty six Indonesian business, government and civil society leaders attended a public lecture by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor, Dr Peter Senge, on steps for a more sustainable economy and sound environment.

"We feel very happy to have Dr. Peter in Jakarta and listen to his lecture on such important issues as positive organizational changes, tri-sector partnership, and sustainability. I hope the lecture inspired the participants to work together in building a better world," chairman of the organizing committee of the United In Diversity (UID) forum, Rosihan Arsyad, said here Friday.

Furthermore, Dr Senge in his lecture said it was important for a government, corporations and individuals to work together as tri-sector partners to make the world more economically and environmentally sustainable.

"The government cannot work alone in solving the problems of a country. Global problems are everybody's concern. We have to learn to work together to overcome such issues," Senge said.

According to the professor, the key to a successful country or corporation was management that combines system, thinking, collaboration, and team learning.

Moreover, Senge also said that the global crises including climate change, should be considered as problems which had brought both danger and opportunities to people.

"The global crises have brought us to realize that something needs to be changed whether it is our human greed or irresponsible acts," Senge said.

Dr Senge's lecture is held by UID as part of its program called Innovative Dynamic Education for Action and Sustainability (IDEAS). It is a bridging leadership executive education for Indonesian leaders across sectors namely business, government and civil society. The program was launched in August 2008.

IDEAS's objective is to provide leaders of different sectors the appropriate tools that can bridge collective efforts in managing complex corporate, government and social problems.
