New Thai King ascends the throne

BANGKOK, December 1 (TNA) - His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn has accepted the invitation of National Legislative Assembly (NLA) President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, on behalf of all the Thai people, to ascend the throne as the 10th King of Thailand's Chakri Dynasty. The gracious event, held at Amphorn Palace in Bangkok, was broadcast live on Thursday evening, followed by the official announcements of the NLA President, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha and the Bureau of the Royal Household. According to the official announcements, His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn has ascended the throne as the 10th monarch of Thailand's present Chakri Dynasty since October 13, 2016, the day when late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital. The Royal Coronation Ceremony of the new Thai King will be held after the Royal Cremation of late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej next year. His Majesty Maha Vajiralongkorn, 64, was born on July 28, 1952, as the second child and the only son of Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. Late His Majesty King Bhumibol named Prince Vajiralongkorn as the heir to the throne in 1972 in accordance with the 1924 Palace Law on Succession. (TNA)
