Floods outside of Hat Yai receded, monitoring continues

SONGKHLA, Dec 3 (TNA) -- The flooding situation outside of Songkhla's business district of Hat Yai has now improved, with the level of flooding already receding to the normal level. The flood level outside of the business heart, particularly in Baan Kuan Jong village of Na Mom subdistrict and Toong Yai subdistrict, has almost decreased back to normal, with only low lying areas and farmlands left inundated at the moment. Nonetheless, local villagers have continued to keep their belongings on high ground just to be safe. Authorities have still put up yellow flags at canals surrounding the Hat Yai district, such as the Klong Wa canal, a symbol signalling that the water level is still risky. The water level at U-tapao canal, the main canal which run through the business district and being closely monitored, on the other hand, have showed no signs of increasing, as officials remain to put up green flags at all 17 spots along the canal. The Songkhla Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, in the mean time, has reported that four districts of the province have now been flooded, including the provincial seat, Hat Yai, Na Mom, and Saba Yoi. The situation has become less severe due the the weakening rainfalls, though the province would continue to closely observe the situation. (END)
