Mock Malay Wedding Wows Chileans
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Chileans got a glimpse of the tradition-steeped Malaysian wedding courtesy of the Malaysian embassy in Santiago which organised a mock Malay wedding ceremony recently.
What was interesting was that the 'bride' and 'bridegroom' were both Chileans.
It was replete with the requisite 'akad nikah' (marriage solemnisation), the ritual of 'tepung tawar' and 'merenjis' as well as the 'berinai' ceremony.
Malaysian ambassador Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, who presided over the event, had the privilege of explaining the various stages of the mock wedding to the assembled guests.
It also featured a silat display performed by the embassy staff, according to a statement from the mission.
Guests were also treated to a wide array of Malaysian favourites such as nasi minyak, ayam masak merah, pajeri nenas, dalca kambing, agar-agar and fruits as well as teh tarik.
In his brief speech, Ambassador Rameez spoke about the importance of such an event in Malaysia and how it was part and parcel of the daily life of many Malaysians.
The event showcasing Malaysia via public diplomacy was also supported by the Chilean Malaysian Business Council.
