Passenger van terminal to be open next May
BANGKOK, Dec 10 (TNA) -- The inter-province passenger van terminal will be completed and open for services to the public next May 1 as planned, said Noppharat Karunyavanich, Executive Vice President of the state-run Transport Co, Ltd
The van terminal will be constructed on Bangkok’s Kamphaeng Phet Road, opposite Mor Chit Bus Terminal 2, under the policy of the National Council for Peace and Order, he said.
This was the attempt to regulate van services, which they blame for inner-city traffic congestion.
Upon completion of the station, the passenger vans would serve commuters in an orderly manner.
Designs of the van terminal are being drawn by an educational institution and are expected to complete in the next one week, said Mr Noppharat.
Land where the terminal will be built is owned by the State Railway of Thailand and a rental contract will be signed soon, he said.
More than 2,000 private-run passenger vans which are now providing services from the Mor Chit Bus Terminal 2 will be moved to the new terminaland start providing services from next May 1, he added. (TNA)
