RI SETS 2009 CHINESE TOURIST ARRIVAL TARGET AT 300,000
Beijing, Jan 27 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ambassador to China Sudradjat said his office had set a target of 300,000 Chinese tourist visits in Indonesia for 2009 or the same as for 2008 although the actual number reached in 2008 was more than 332,000.
"We don't want to be too ambitious because we understand that economies are now contracting as a result of the global financial crisis. If the 300,000 tourist arrival target is achieved it will be a good thing," he said here on Tuesday.
The ambassador said he had been informed of the number of Chinese tourist arrivals in Indonesia in 2008 which stood at 332,000 which meant the 300,000 target was already exceeded.
But he said the world economy's contraction would likely dash the optimism that the number of Chinese tourist arrivals in Indonesia would increase in 2009.
"I don't dare to set the target at more than 300,000 in 2009. If we can attain the 2008 figure it would already be a good thing," he added.
Even so, the Indonesian embassy in Beijing would continue to make efforts to promote Indonesia's tourism potentials in China so that the number of Chinese tourists visiting the country this year would increase.
The embassy had conducted tourism promotion tours of several Chinese cities in an effort to introduce Indonesia's tourist potentials to Chinese citizens.
