Thai youths win two golds at HKISIIC 2016
HONG KONG, Dec 19 (TNA) -- Thai elementary school students won two golds, one bronze medals, along with three special awards at this year's Hong Kong International Innovative Invention 2016 or HKISIIC 2016.
The Thai Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) had sent in three teams which were chosen through a nationwide selection to compete in the competition this year, which was held between December 15-18 at Yun Chai Hospital No 2 Secondary School in Hong Kong.
The office reported that the Thai youth representatives were able to grab two gold medals, one for the creation of Nurulhuda Maseng and Supattaree Ploysila, the 4th and 5th graders, respectively, from the Muang Naratiwat School, who had designed a lid that prevented boiling water from spilling outside the pot. The invention also received a special award from Indonesia.
Another gold medal was given to Sasithorn Lodsukho and Supawadi Meechai, from the 5th and 6th grade of Pracha Nikon Amnuai Wet School in Pathum Thani province, designers of a versatile tool that could be used in the kitchen to open various types of bottle caps. This invention has also received a special award from Macau.
The bronze medal was given to Theepan Nuanchan and Wut Benyarit from the 4th and 5th grade of Pattani Kindergarten School in Pattani province for their design of a multipurpose brush which sprayed cleaning liquid while being used. Indonesia also presented this invention with a special award.
Expert on Education Management at OBEC Ms Panida Wichaidit, in her capacity as the team leader for the competition voiced that HKISIIC 2016 is a contest organised to encourage secondary school students to show off their talents on innovations, noting that this is the 4th year in which the competition is held.
She added that 6 countries had participated in the competition this year, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Thailand, showcasing 85 innovations designed and created by secondary school students from each country.
Ms Panida said this is the first time that Thailand has entered into the contest. (TNA)
