AMBULANCES DONATED BY RI ARRIVE IN GAZA

Rafah, Jan. 28 (ANTARA) - A number of ambulances donated by the Indonesian people and government to the Palestinians have arrived in the Gaza Strip through Rafah on the Egyptian-Palestine border, a Cairo-based Indonesian diplomat said.

One of the ambulances was from the Indonesian health ministry, three from the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) Indonesia, and two from the Indonesian Red Crescent (BSMI).
They were symbolically received by the Palestinian Red Crescent on Tuesday (Jan 27) in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
"Hopefully, the humanitarian aid from the Indonesian government and people can help our brothers and sisters in Gaza, Palestine, who desperately need help," Danang Waskito, a second secretary at the Indonesian embassy in Cairo, said.
Meanwhile, a second MER-C Indonesia medical team for Palestine led by Dr. Arief Rachman has finally managed to enter the Gaza Strip after waiting at Rafah for two days.
A BSMI team consisting of nine volunteers also entered the Gaza Strip to give humanitarian aid consisting of medicines and cash money to Gaza people.
The three-week Israeli military aggression in the Gaza Strip has killed around 1,400 Palestinians, including children and women, and injured more than 4,000 others.
Commenting on the Israeli attacks on Gaza, the chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Hidayat Nurwahid, said Israeli occupation of Palestine was a form of neocolonialism that had created a "holocaust" for the Palestinian people.
Nurwahid urged the United Nations General Assembly to expel Israel frome UN membership for ignoring the international community's calls and pressures to stop its military actions in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, the Arab League has put forward a request to the United Nations to initiate an investigation into Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
Permanent representatives of the Cairo-based Arab League (AL) appealed to the UN General Assembly last Monday (Jan. 26) to "form an international committee to investigate Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip and to set up a criminal court to try Israeli war criminals."
