PRESIDENT ASKS NOTARIES PUBLIC TO SPREAD ACROSS COUNTRY

Surabaya, East Java, Jan 28 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on Indonesian notaries public to avoid being concentrated in select areas or major cities so that their services would be available to a maximum number of people.

Speaking at the opening of the 20th congress of the Association of Indonesian Notaries Public (INI) here on Wednesday, the President said the offices of notaries public should not be concentrated in certain areas only but scattered across the country to give their best possible services to people who need their help.
The president in his address themed "Quality Improvement and Service Accountability", said notaries' professional services were part of the public service system.
"Not only notaries public but all parties, including myself, ministers, governors, and all state officials should give better services to the people. Do not make simple things difficult, inexpensive things expensive or delay things that can be done immediately," Yudhoyono said.
He said the qualities of a true public servant were needed in all fields to create quick, easy, inexpensive, and accountable public service systems.
"This is why, we all hope we can have a good legal system that can be applied equally well," the president said.
Meanwhile, INI chairperson Tien Norman Lubis said the INI congress was attended by 2,000 notaries public from all over the country.
She said INI had around 9,000 members but most of them were concentrated in a number of major cities.
On the occasion, Lubis presented the president with a book titled "Jati Diri Notaris Indonesia Dulu, Sekarang dan di Masa Datang)" (The Identity of Indonesian Notaries Public in the Past, Today and in the Future).
The president attended the INI function accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Law and Human Rights Minister Andi Mattalatta, Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, and presidential spokesmen Andi Malarangeng and Dino Patti Djalal.
