Over 3,000 Foreign Tourists Arrive In Terengganu For VTY2017
KUALA NERUS (Terengganu, Malaysia), Jan 3 (Bernama) -- More than 3,000 foreign tourists have started arriving in the state in conjunction with Visit Terenganu Year 2017 (VTY2017) - Visit Beautiful Terengganu 2017 which was launched last Saturday.
This first group of trade tourists are from China, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar and Middle Eastern countries.
Terengganu Menteri Besar (Chief Minister), Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the biggest number, at about 1,000 of them, came from China and had been staying in various hotels in the state since Monday.
"Tomorrow (Tuesday) they will be visiting interesting places in Kuala Terengganu city including Payang Market, Kampung Cina, Pulau Warisan, Islamic Civilisation Park, the State Museum and other tourist spots in the state."
Ahmad Razif said this to reporters after a dinner reception with the group of tourists at the Gong Badak Indoor Stadium, here, Monday night.
Also present was state Industry and Domestic Trade Committee chairman, Tengku Putera Tengku Awang.
Ahmad Razif, who also holds the Tourism and Culture portfolio, said the state government would fully display the beauty and uniqueness of Terengganu to these tourists who mostly had never been to the state.
He said another group of over 15,000 foreign tourists was expected to visit Terengganu subsequently.
Ahmad Razif said he hoped the presence of many tourists would benefit the state's people, especially the local traders and entrepreneurs.
"What is important is for them to welcome tourists with warmth and friendliness, treat them couteously and not take advantage of them by raising the prices of goods.
"Otherwise, this action will only spoil what we are implementing. It will also give this state a bad image. Treat them well, so the tourists will be happy and will want to come here again," he said.
