300 million baht donation to be used to repair flood damages
BANGKOK, Jan 18 (TNA) -- Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office Ormsin Chivapruck said the donation worth 300 million baht is not enough to be given out to affected flood victims in the Thai south but would be used to restore any damages caused by the flooding instead.
The minister said that a meeting of the committee on the funding to assist natural disaster victims of the Prime Minister's Office has approved to provide the family of victims killed by the flood in the southern region with 50,000 baht each, by using the budget of the Prime Minister's Office.
He noted that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-o-cha is set to present the funding to the victims' families when he visit the region on January 26.
Mr Ormsin said the premier is extremely worried about the people in the south and ordered assistance to be given as soon as possible, adding that the rest of the country has continued to donate large quantity of necessities to the flooded Thai south through MCOT Plc or MCOT, which he believes would be enough to provide help the affected people and noted that any areas which still lack anything should immediately inform the government.
Nonetheless, the minister expressed that the public donation of 300 million baht durng the fund - raising for flood victims event at the Government House on Sunday is not enough to be given out to each affected household in the Thai southern region.
The premier has ordered concerned agencies to inspect the damages caused by the recent flooding in order to use the said funding to help revive the environment in severely affected areas instead. (TNA)
