Thailand ready to hold International Women's Day event

BANGKOK, Jan 18 (TNA) -- Thailand's International Women's Day event organising committee has expressed readiness to hold the event for the year. Labour Permanent Secretary Puntrik Smiti, in her capacity as the chairperson of the International Women's Day event organising committee for 2017 said the Labour Ministry has hosted the annual International Women's Day event every year with an aim to encourage all sectors to realise the importance of female labours, where all sector should join hands to ensure safe and happy environment for female workers to work in, as well as to value working women. This year event is scheduled to be held at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel on March 8. Director-General of Department of Labour Protection and Welfare Sumet Mahosot, meanwhile, said that the main activity of upcoming event is to announce to the country outstanding working women, who would receive a special award and plaque in recognition of their hard work. He said a total of 22 awards would be given out for eight categories, including five awards for outstanding female executives, five awards for outstanding work, four awards for outstanding work on labour network, four awards for outstanding female freelancers, and one award each for outstanding role model, oustanduing female media worker, outstanding female employee of a private development organisation and outstanding female academician.
