Jokowi Disscuses Pancasila With Former Vice President

JAKARTA, Jan 20 (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with former vice president Try Sutrisno here on Thursday to discuss ways to strengthen the Pancasila state ideology. "This morning, the President received Try Sutrisno. The two discussed in essence various ways to strengthen Pancasila," minister and state secretary, Pratikno, said. Pratikno, who flanked the president during the 30-minute meeting, stated that Try Sutrisno hailed the intensive efforts undertaken by the president to strengthen Pancasila. "Pak (Mr) Try gave some inputs regarding what should be done and how and also suggested setting up of an institution to carry out the objective," he informed. He pointed out that Try Sutrisno appreciated President Jokowi's idea about the need to expedite efforts to strengthen Pancasila. President Jokowi also received former president BJ Habibie on the same day. No statement was issued about what the two discussed after their meeting that lasted from 2 pm to 4 pm. The presidential special staff for communications, Johan Budi, had earlier informed about President Jokowi's meetings with Try Sutrisno and BJ Habibie on Thursday, and added, "The two national figures wished to meet the president." Indonesia's state ideology, Pancasila, covers five principles, consisting of belief in One God, a just and civilized humanity, the unity of Indonesia, democracy guided by the inner wisdom, unanimity arising out of deliberations amongst representatives and social justice for all the people of Indonesia. The issue about the need to respect the state ideology has been in the spotlight following increasing intolerance in the country.
