Thailand, Myanmar promotes tourism links
PHUKET, Jan 22 (TNA) – Thailand and Myanmar join hands to promote maritime tourism to attract more tourists to the two countries.
Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sport Pongpanu Svetarundra held talks with Myanmar Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung at a hotel in the resort island of Phuket on Sunday.
The meeting is to follow up a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation signed between the two countries in Nay Pyi Taw two weeks ago.
Phuket governor, officials and private sectors in tourism – related businesses along the Andaman coastal provinces also attended the meeting.
Myanmar focuses to promote tourism routes, connecting Myanmar’s Myiek and Thailand’s Ranong and Phuket
Ohn Maung said Myanmar proposed Thailand to consider expand sea, land and air links between the two countries to promote tourism.
Myanmar proposed that Thailand consider opening more air routes Myiek-Dawei-Bangkok and Kawthaung- Myiek- Bangkok. However, Myiek Airport’s capacity is limited to medium and small aircraft. (TNA)
