BEI INDEX CLOSES SLIGHTLY HIGHER EARLY FRIDAY
Jakarta, Jan. 30 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) closed 1.006 points higher in the bourse's morning session on Friday.
The IHSG closed at 1,325.656, up 1.006 points or 0.08 percent, after it fell 9.408 points to 1,315.242 in early trading.
PT Danareksa Securities in its daily research analysis, said here on Friday the BEI index tumbled in early trading because the US Wall Street bourse with its Dow Jones index fell 2.7 percent following the release of the financial reports of several corporations all showing low performance.
In regional bourses, investors reacted negatively to the corporations' financial reports and were worried that the global crisis would last a long time. The Hang Seng index at the Hong Kong bourse went down 0.48 percent and the Straits Times index in Singapore bourse decreased 1.21 percent.
However, the BEI index was boosted by gains in commodity shares.
Share transaction activity in BEI was slow with the number of transactions made recorded at only 11,539 involving 255.899 million shares worth a total of just Rp275.584 billion.
The Jakarta Stock movements tended to be balanced, with 40 shares that gained, 37 which lost, and 42 shares that remained static.
Among shares which gained in the BEI were Bukit Asam Coal Mining shares that were up Rp200 to Rp7,450, Bumi Resources shares that were up Rp10 to Rp500, Adaro Energy shares which advanced Rp20 to Rp740, Timah (Tin) shares that went up Rp10 to Rp1,090, and PGAS (State Gas Company) shares which went up Rp50 to Rp2,100.
