Department of Livestock Development beefs up control on meat ahead of Chinese New Year

BANGKOK, Jan 24 (TNA) -- The Department of Livestock Development (DLD) has ordered its provincial offices nationwide to inspect the quality of meats ahead of the Chinese New Year, while advising the public to purchase ducks, chicken, and pork from certified producers. The Department Deputy Director General Sorawit Thaneto said his department has ordered all of its provincial and district offices to beef up inspection on meat quality for poultry and pork to create confidence among Thai-Chinese consumers, which would usually buy meats to worship the gods and ancestors during the Chinese New Year. He said the Department has implemented regulations to oversee every process of meat productions, where certified producers would be presented with the 'DLD OK' symbol. He added, however, that primary examinations have not yet revealed any violations by meat producers. (TNA)
