Thailand's security chief to meet Laos authorities
BANGKOK, Jan 27 (TNA) -- Thailand’s National Security Council chief will hold discussion with Laos over a movement allegedly using radio stations in Laos to broadcast faulty contents to attack Thailand.
The topic is one of the agendas of the General Border Committee (GBC) in Bangkok on Thursday among the two nations’ armed forces and security agencies.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan who chaired the meeting on Thursday said Thailand requested Laos cooperation in addressing the security concern.
National Security Council Secretary-General Gen Thawip Netniyom said he planned to formally make the request and discuss with Laos authorities on legal issues regarding this matter.
Intelligence reports suggest that some elements of political groups have used other countries including Laos to attack Thailand.
The GBC meeting co-hosted by visiting Laos’ Minister of Defense Lt Gen Chansamone Chanyalath covered a wide range of issues from border affairs to joint drug suppression operation.
The two neighboring countries also expressed concern over China’s plan to use explosives to smash rocky reefs and shoals on the Mekong River to allow cargo ship navigation. (TNA)
