UNESCAP-Israel Embassy hold Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony

BANGKOK, Jan 27 (TNA) -- The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Israel Embassy in Thailand have jointly held an International Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony to raise awareness among the world population of the grave effect of hatred, while encouraging everyone to help prevent such history from repeating itself. UNESCAP, together with the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok have jointly held the International Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony, which falls on January 27 of every year, in remembrance of millions of Jewish people who were slaughtered during World War 2. The event was attended by representatives from various Thai and international agencies, who took turn to give a speech and light a memorial candle, which was interchanged with a music performance from the Silpakorn Marching Band. Israel Ambassador to Thailand Simon Roded said although the heinous incident had taken place over 70 years ago, similar situation is also happening in the present day in many areas around the world. He added that in today's world, the social media has also been used as an important tool to create prejudice and hatred towards other human beings. The ambassador expressed that he would like to use this opportunity to ask everyone to join hands to help prevent such situation from happening ever again, while pleading to the government of each country to help youths learn from history to instill consciousness on pride and human rights.
