CONFISCATED FOREIGN FISHING BOATS SHOULD BE GIVEN TO FISHERMEN
Medan, N Sumatra, Jan 30 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Fishermen Association (HSNI) hoped the police could hand over their confiscated foreign fishing boats to the members of the association.
HSNI hoped the local government would meet the fishermen's wish, Ihya Ulumuddin, North Suamtra HSNI secretary said here Friday.
Ulumuddin said that North Sumatran fishermen are now living under the poverty line
Based on the result of a HSNI survey, 138 thousand people or 60 percent of the total population of 231 thousandS, are fishermen.
More boats and fishing gear are needed by the fishermen to raise their standard of living.
