CHIEFS OF REGIONAL POLICE SIGN CONTRACT ON ADMINISTRATIVE REFORMS

Jakarta, Jan 30 (ANTARA) - As many as 32 Heads of Regional Police across Indonesia signed a contract here Friday on police commitment to administrative reforms.

Represented by the chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Inspector General Wahyono, and chief of Banten Regional Police Brigadier General Rumiah Kertorejo, the signing of the contract is conducted during the declaration of Police Administrative Reforms launched by president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

According to the Chief of Police, General Bambang Hendarso Danuri, the police was committed to conduct reforms in four sectors namely fast response to people's reports, transparency in processing legal licenses, transparency on investigation, and transparency on personnel recruitment.

The head of Indonesian Police explained that his administration would add 800 patrol cars to implement the commitment of faster response towards people's reports. The cars, he added, would be equipped with sophisticated equipment and would be operated in March 2009 starting with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Banten police and West Java police.

"People can directly report any suspected criminal action to the patrol cars which will be operating 24 hours a day," he added.

In investigation sector, Danuri said, Indonesian Police would provide internet service where informers could monitor any progress of a case investigation by email.

"When reporting, people will be given a password which can be used to ask the police about latest progress of a case investigation," he said.

Furthermore, Danuri said, the police had set the stretches of time on case's settlement namely 30 days for light case, 60 days for average case and 90 days for heavy case.

As to the processing time of legal papers, he said, the police would try to be more transparent. In fact, Danuri added, some services were reallocated to public places such as malls.
