ISOC:2016 unrest in Thai Far South drops in 12 years

BANGKOK, February 6 (TNA) - The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), Region 4, has released its 2016 report on the situation in the Thai Far South, stating that overall insurgent attacks and losses dropped for the first time in 12 years. The ISOC held a meeting at Bangkok's Government House on Monday to brief its 2016 report on operations against violent unrest in the troubled sounternmost Thai region, chaired by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, who is also ISOC director, and attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, as well as top officers of concerned security agencies. The report said last year, security agencies remained vigilant, investigated and followed up insurgent-related cases, while also cooperating with the local civil sector on tip-offs, which led to the effective and successful work to curb violence in the Thai Deep South. Besides, ISOC, through the Center For Reconciliation and Reform, worked to build unity and prevent new conflicts in the southern border region. The Thai premier then gave guidelines for this year’s operational framework to the concerned security agencies. (TNA)
