BALI TO HOST INDONESIAN OPEN GOLF TOURNAMENT 2009

Denpasar, Jan 30 (ANTARA) - Bali was appointed host of the Indonesian Open Golf Tournament (TGIT) to be held from February 26 to March 1, 2009, chairman of Indonesian Golf Association (PGI), I Nyoman Djintji, said here Friday.

Taking place in New Golf Kuta field, Badung regency, Djintji said, the TGIT would invite international golfers from Asia and Europe to play in the tournament.

Moreover, Djintji explained that this year's event was expected to make Bali an international tourist destination for golfers from around the world.

"This international event can make Bali an international tourist destination for golfers," Djintji said adding that the TGIT event would be covered by 80 media around the world.

Meanwhile, secretary of Bali provincial administration, I Nyoman Yasa, expressed appreciation on Bali's appointment to host the 2009 TGIT.

The secretary expected that the event would be useful as promotional media for Bali's tourism.

"In the last few years, Golf has touched not only the upper class but also the middle class," Yasa added.
