IMT GT NEEDS TO DISCUSS ILLEGALLY IMPORTED PRODUCTS
Pekanbaru, Jan 30 (ANTARA) - Executive Director of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Riau chapter, Muhammad Herwan, said here on Friday the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle or IMT GT forum needs to discuss regulations to anticipate imports of illegal products.
"The IMT GT forum must make a collective decision to anticipate illegal product imports," Herwan said.
The illegal imported products can be anticipated by simplifying the import procedures by cutting the cost and time, he added.
Besides, the effort must be supported by tight supervision and the law.
Meanwhile, President of the Malay Chambers of Commerce of Malaysia (DPMM) in Negeri Malaka, Datuk MD Ramly Mohamad, said Riau is a potential market for expansion of Malaysian products.
However, the high number of illegally imported products from Malaysia to Indonesia can be one of the barriers of the multilateral economic cooperation.
This is because official exporters will face difficulties in competing with cheaper similar products.
