VP KALLA EXPECTED IN JAPAN
Tokyo, Jan 31 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla is expected to arrive in Tokyo at 5 p.m. local time on Saturday for a three-day visit to receive an honorary doctorate for peace from Soka University in Hachioji.
The same academic title was in the past awarded to a number of figures from other countries, including former South African President Nelson Mandela, former Egyptian President Husni Mubarak, former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, former Philippine President Fidel Valdes Ramos, and former Indian President KR Narayan.
Before receiving the honorary doctorate on Monday (February 2), the Indonesian vice president is scheduled to visit Zoorasia Zoo in Yokohama on Sunday.
Established in 1999, the zoo has a collection of several typical animals from Indonesia such as Sumatran tiger, tapir (tapirus indicus), orangutan from Kalimantan, black panther, and pied mynah.
The six tapirs in the Zoorasia Zoo were taken from Gembiraloka Zoo in Yogyakarta, the orangutan is from Ragunan Zoo in Jakarta, and the pied mynah is from a breeding center in Denpasar.
The Indonesian animals were put in Zoorasia Zoo to introduce Indonesia's fauna to the Japanese public.
While in Japan, Kalla would also visit the Pasona 02 underground agricultural center at B2F Otemchi-Nomura in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
The underground agricultural center was built to make Japanese youth more interested in agriculture.
On Tuesday, the Indonesian vice president would leave Tokyo for Washington DC to attend a session of the United States Congress.
