MAGNITUDE 5.5 ROCKS MELONGUANE OF NORTH SULAWESI

Bengkulu, Indonesia, Feb 1 (ANTARA) - A tectonic quake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale jolted Melonguane in the province of North Sulawesi on Sunday at about 08:50:19 the Indonesian western standard time (WIB).

Information from the Meteorology and Geophysic Station (BMG) in Bengkulu on Sunday said the quake was located in 4.47 degree north lattitude and 127.54 degree eastern longitude.

The epicentre of the temblor, according to BMG, was about 223 km Northeast of Melonguane, North Sulawesi, in a depth of 66 km below sea level.

On Saturday afternoon, a tectonic quake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter Scale hit Maluku waters on Saturday afternoon.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Station in Jakarta said the temblor happened at 16:00 the Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB).

The epicenter of the quake was in a depth of 137 km below sea level, 230 km Southwest of Saumlaki and 371 km Southeast of Ambon, the capital of Maluku province.
The data also showed that the quake lacked the potential to trigger tsunami.
