UNDP joins hands with private sector to achieve UN SDGs

BANGKOK, March 10 (TNA) -- The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Charoen Pokphand Group, with aim to propel the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) forward. The agreement was signed earlier this morning at the Centara Grand at Central World Hotel, in which Noppadol Dej-Udom, Charoen Pokphand Group’s Vice President for Sustainability, Good Governance, and Corporate Communications and Mr Martin Hart-Hansen, Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP Thailand, represented their respective organisations to sign the MoU. Meanwhile, Ms Helen Clark, Administrator of UNDP and the former New Zealand’s premier, and Mr Luc Stevens, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Thailand, were present as the witnesses of the signing ceremony. Under the MoU, the UNDP and CP Group would join hands to develop various projects, including those on innovations for the society, sustainable production and consumption, fight against corruption, as well as to help steer Thailand to achieve the UN SDGs. CP Group is also set to present a donation of 50,000 US dollars to the UNDP to be used as funding to help Thai youths and start-up businesses in Thailand to create innovation for the society for sustainable development. Mr Martin said this is the first cooperation between UNDP and the private sector in a bid to achieve the UN SDGs, which is considered to be a milestone for future cooperating between the UNDP and the Thai private sector, as to successfully achieve the SDGs all sectors must work together.
