Thais in Seoul warned to stay away from rallies

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) -- The Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul of South Korea is warning Thai residents living in the South Korean capital through its Facebook page on March 10, 2017 to stay clear of areas where protests have erected for their own safety. The statement said since the South Korean Constitutional Court has given the verdict to impeach President Park Geun-Hye from office, it is expected that protesters from both the supporter of the former president and those against her would rally over the weekend in the heart of the capital. The embassy said it would like to advise all Thais residing or traveling in the capital to avoid protesting sites and to closely follow up on the situation. For more information on the issue, please contact the embassy's hotline at 010-6747-0095. President Park has become the country's first democratically elected leader to be forced from office. Judges on Friday, unanimously upheld parliament's decision to impeach Ms Park over her role in a corruption scandal involving her close friend, Choi Soon-sil. She now loses her presidential immunity and could face criminal charges. (TNA)
