Thai Cabinet waives tollway fee during Songkran Festival

BANGKOK, March 15 (TNA) - The Cabinet has approved a fee waiver on inter-city tollways for motorists during upcoming Songkran, or traditional Thai New Year holidays. Under the Cabinet's resolution, issued on March 14 after the Cabinet's weekly meeting at Bangkok's Government House, the toll fees will be exempted on the Bangkok-Pattaya Motorway and Bang Pa-in-Bang Phli Outer Ring Road during April 11-18. Assistant Government Spokesman Colonel Athisit Chaiyanuwat told journalists that the Thai Cabinet also waived a fee for migrant workers wanting to travel to their home countries of Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar during April 5-30 to have a reunion with their families during the Songkran Festival 2017. "The Cabinet assigned the Interior Ministry to issue ministerial regulations to exempt all fees for the migrant workers in Thailand to travel to their home countries and back to work in the Thai Kingdom", the assistant spokesman stated. The assistant spokesman said Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has also ordered all relevant agencies to watch out against any official who might take advantages of migrant workers during the upcoming long-holiday period.
