HOUSE APPROVES EIGHT APPOINTMENTS TO ENERGY COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP
Jakarta, Feb 3 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) at a plenary meeting here on Tuesday endorsed the candidacy of eight people as members of the National Energy Council (DEN).
The eight candidates who were approved by the House plenary meeting to become DEN members were Agusman Effendi representing consumers, Widjajono Partowidagdo (technology), Prof Rinaldy Dalimi (academics), Eddie Widiono (industry), Herman Darnel Ibrahim (industry), Tumiran (academics), Mukhtasor (environment), Herman Agustiawan ( consumers).
The plenary meeting on Tuesday was chaired by DPR Deputy Speaker Muhaimin Iskandar.
"The National Energy Council is a national council which is independent, permanent and responsible for the formulation of national energy policies," said Sutan Bhatoegana, vice chairman of DPR's Commission VII which deals with energy, after the House plenary meeting here on Tuesday.
He said one of the important breakthroughs in Law No. 30 / 2007 on energy was the establishment of the National Energy Council.
Bhatoegana said the council was set up by the president based on article 12 section 1 of the Law on Energy.
He said the energy policies formulated by the council were expected to enable energy affairs to be managed in accordance with the energy law.
The energy law mandated the creation of an independent energy management, availability of energy at home to meet domestic energy needs and increase the country's foreign exchange earnings.
