Commuters in Bangkok offered one-month free ride on new electric train route
BANGKOK, March 15 (TNA) - An extension of the electric train on the green route, linking Bearing with Samut Prakan on the outskirts of Bangkok, will be opened for public service on April 3 and passengers will be offered a free ride throughout April.
Bangkok Governor Police General Asawin Kwanmuang and executives of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) boarded the electric train on the extended route during its test run on Wednesday, from Bearing to Samrong Stations.
The governor said the 13-kilometre extension is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in Bangkok's Bangna area, connecting with Samut Prakan, where industrial plants and dense residential areas are located.
It is also expected that the extended electric train route will be fully operational by the end of 2018, serving more than 100,000 passengers daily.
Its reasonable fare will be later discussed by relevant agencies, but it is likely to start at 10 baht. (TNA)
