Police, wife arrested for drug trafficking in Thai South
SONGKHLA, April 1 (TNA) – A local police and his wife have been arrested and thousands of illicit drugs have been seized in the southern province of Songkhla.
The Border Patrol Police arrested the couple, identified as Police Senior Sergeant Major Veera Chumjamras, 42, and Ms Natcha Suwanchatee, 38, for having 2,000 amphetamine pills, 400 grams of meth, and drug paraphernalia in possession.
The police also seized their assets, totaling 42 items, including four firearms, a car, 27 baht weight of gold ornaments and their bank accounts.
The arrest of the two who are believed to be key drug traffickers in the Thai southern border provinces resulted from the search operations at two condominiums in Songkhla’s Hat Yai where the officers found narcotic drugs hidden in their apartments.
Police said Ms Natcha was an ex-wife of a drug lord who was arrested previously and has been held in custody. She then lived with Pol Sen Sgt Maj Veera and together created a drug trafficking network in the southern border provinces.
The couple faced a total of five charges, including drug trafficking and illegal possession of ammunition, said police. (TNA)
