Songkran in Chiang Mai to remain active as before

CHIANG MAI, April 4 (TNA) -- Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Chiang Mai Office Ms Pinnart Charoenpol said that Songkran Festival in the province this year would remain to as active and lively as any other years, where the number of tourist arrivals is expected to increase by 10 per cent from last year. She said apart from Thai tourists, who would be flowing into the province to celebrate the water festival, Chinese tourists have also started to hire chartered flights ahead of the festival in order to come and join in with the festivity of Songkran between April 13-16. Ms Pinnart said around 300 visitors from China's Yunnan province would also be arriving in Chiang Mai, as well as tourists from America and Europe with room reservations already booked at 80 per cent. She then advised all festival goers to dress appropriately to enjoy the water splashing fun and to refrain from drinking any kinds of alcohol beverages, so as to help preserve and continue the beautiful Thai culture for the next generations to come.
