Malaysia's Oldest Climber Heads For Nepal's Dingboche For Acclimatisation
KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- James Lee Chong Meng, Malaysia's oldest climber will be heading to Dingboche, Nepal at 4,410m above sea level for acclimatisation, today.
Lee, 69, who is on a quest to conquer Mount Everest, the world's highest peak will stay for two days at the popular stop for trekkers and climbers.
Public Relations Officer of Lions Mount Everest Expedition (MEE) Sherine Leong in a statement said the trip to Dingboche would take four hours depending on the weather conditions.
"Lee arrived at Pangboche at 5pm yesterday and will attend 'puja prayer' at Pangboche monastery before proceeding to Dingboche.
"Yesterday (Friday), James had experienced discomfort 'stomach pangs', due to cold air and he is in good health now," she said.
Lee and his team arrived in Kathmandu at 10.15 pm (Nepal time) on April 1.
The five other climbers are Eugene Kwan Jyh Sin, 47, Chong Nyuk Kooi, 49, Teng Hee Weng, 48, Berdych Tan Teck Chai and Jack Oh Jin Heng, both 32.
They will escort Lee to the Base Camp of Mount Everest, before Lee continues his climb to the top of the summit.
Lee who is in his second trial wants to inspire people in all age groups to strive for good health, be active in community activities and get the public to protect the environment.
