Jakarta, Feb 5 (ANYARA) - Transportation Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal said that at least 30,000 people are killed in road accidents in Indonesia every year.
"The figure was taken from the statistics," the minister told a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission V, which deals with transportation, here on Thursday.
On the occasion the minister delivered his remark address to the opening of the deliberation in the House of a revision of Law No. 14/1992 on Traffic and Land Transportation with the Commission V.
National Police Chief General Bambang Danuri attended the hearing with the House Commission V.
The minister said that seeing the big number of victims in road accidents, the relevant agencies should develop synergy in order to help increase safety in roads.
"The revision of the law on traffic and transportation is really needed to answer challenges developing from time to time in the road and request by the people. Changes in paradigm, including in the management road safety is needed," the minister added.
At least six people were killed and 23 others injured when a 'Kramat Djati' bus plunged into a ravine in Malangbong subdistrict, Garut district, West Java, late last month.
