Government promotes Thai-style Songkran
BANGKOK, April 10 (TNA) -- The government has reiterated to all concerned officials to ensure a safe journey for all commuters during the upcoming Songkran holidays, while pleading with all Thais to be extra kind and considerate toward each other.
Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that this year, the government is encouraging all sectors to organise activities to celebrate the water festival by emphasising the traditional style Songkran, as well as to wisely use water.
This year water festival is scheduled to be held from April 13-17, focusing on three main measures of dressing appropriately, economising the use of water, and driving safely.
Lt Gen Sansern said the objective of the Songkran Festival is to continue the beautiful Thai tradition that could be adapted to fit all religious beliefs in the country.
He said the government would like to encourage the Thai people to use the occasion to display their gratitude to the elders in the family, along with use the celebration to strengthen family ties.
As for the economising the use of water, the spokesman said, the government is asking all activity organisers to provide suitable areas for participants to enjoy the water splashing fun, while encouraging them to use small water guns and water dipper instead of high pressure water guns or water hose.
Meanwhile, commuters should make sure their vehicles are ready for the long drive, as well as to drive carefully and strictly adhere by traffic regulations.
He said that Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha has ordered all concerned officials to be prepared to provide better conveniences in all aspects to the public, advising that everyone be kind and considerate towards one another. (TNA)
