BURI RAM, April 13 (TNA) -- Buri Ram Prison has organised a special activity for the inmates to celebrate this year's Songkran Festival by allowing them to pouring scented water over their hands of their parents, a tradition usually carried out at Songkran as a way to give respect to the elderly, amidst a warm atmosphere full of smiles and happy tears. The penitentiary has organised the activity for prisoners with excellent behaviour to provide them with a chance to celebrate the festival like everyone else across the country and to express their gratitude towards their parents. It has also allowed the visitors to bring food with them in order for them to have a family meal with their loved ones who were being detained. The atmosphere today was overwhelming with joy, as both male and female prisoners were full of happy tears as they were allowed to expressed their love and respect for their parents on Songkran of the Thai New Year. The prison is allowing this intimate visit for Songkran until tomorrow, April 14. Buri Ram Prison Commander Padet Ringrod said the activity is aimed to provide the inmates with an opportunity to celebrate the festival and to express their love and gratitude towards their parents, while helping to provide moral support for the prisoners and help ease stress. The warden believes this should help the inmates become good citizens when they returned back into the society after their sentence, while at the same time, help prevent them from circling back into illegal activities.
