EGAT is rushing to restore power transmission lines in Pattani

BANGKOK, April 13 (TNA) -- The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has restored 70% of transmission towers earlier felled by insurgents in Nong Chik district, Pattani. Deputy EGAT governor Suthon Boonprasong gave moral support to about 300 EGAT workers mobilized from around the country for the task in the far southern district on April 13. Their task entered its seventh day and the officials were working in difficult terrains and weather conditions to restore 115-kilovolt transmission towers in the national transmission grid for national power security. The task is time-consuming due to the serious damage of the transmission towers. On April 13 the officials erected at least three transmission towers and transmission lines were expected to be installed on the towers within the same day. The overall task was 70% completed. Mr Suthon said that the EGAT was grateful for nationwide moral support for the task and it intended to restore power transmission to the southernmost area as soon as possible to meet power demands. He admitted that the EGAT was worried about the future protection of transmission towers in the far South. (TNA)
