Traditional games demonstration at Sukhothai

SUKHOTHAI, April 14 (TNA) -- Thai folk games are resurrected at Sukhothai Historical Park as part of Songkran Day celebration. Municipal administration of Sukhothai, a former capital of Thailand, organized the traditional game demonstration on a lawn of the ancient ruins. Participants representing 12 communities of the old city competed in three games; fish catching, Hua Bai Tai Bod and pole boxing. These games are among over 1,000 traditional games widely played for entertainment in Thailand since the Sukhothai era, some 700 years ago. Key elements of the games are mostly natural materials such as sand, mud balls, rocks, stones, grass and straw. Playing games with children creates good relationship among family members. (TNA)
