Thailand's main airport serves over 2m passengers during Songkran 2017

BANGKOK, April 19 (TNA) - More than 2.26 million passengers have been slated to use Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport during the country's Songkran, or Traditional Thai New Year, Festival 2017, a 8.63 per cent year-on-year increase. Suvarnabhumi International Airport Director Sirote Duangratana told journalists of the update on Wednesday, noting that the figure was recorded during April 5-17 to be compared with the same period last year. Sirote said the figure revealed that the main Thai airport served 174,119 international passengers daily during the recent festive period. According to the top executive, most of the passengers using the Suvarnabhumi International Airport during the period, or more than 1.84 million, were those of international flights, a 5.51 per cent year-on-year increase, the rest of nearly 420,000 passengers were those of domestic flights, a surge by 24.79 per cent year-on-year. The Suvarnabhumi Airport executive also acknowledged that there were a total of 937 flights daily on average to serve the passengers during the recent Songkran period, a 1.18 per cent year-on-year increase, 9,116 of of them were international flights, a 1.65 per cent drop from the corresponding period of last year, and the remaining 3,067 flights were domestic ones, a 10.64 per cent increase from the same period of last year.
