LEMBATA GEOTHERMAL PRODUCES 70MW OF ELECTRICITY
Lewoleba, INDONESIA, Feb 6 (ANTARA) - Geothermal potential at Atadei village in Lembata district, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, produced 70 megawatts of electricity power, Lembata district head Andreas Duli Manuk said here on Friday.
"The geothermal potential was produced after a geological team from Bandung, West Java, drilled the area," Andreas said.
According to him, the team had made the drilling twice at two separate locations in Atadei and then found out that it produced 70 MW of electricity power.
"It is good news for the people of Lembata, because electricity problem in the district can be overcome by the local geothermal potential," Andreas said, adding that the people all over the district would later be able to enjoy electricity.
Meanwhile, NTT Governor Frans Lebu Raya said the local administration officials needed to give enlightenment to the local community in order not to be misled by unreliable issues.
The governor found the enlightenment necessary because the people there had been misled by an issue that the mud-flow at the site of geothermal-generated power plant (PLTPB) in Mataloko, Flores island, was similar to Lapindo Brantas mud-flow disaster in Sidoarjo, East Java.
"The people are easily provoked by such an issue. Therefore the enlightenment from local administration officials for the people of Lembata is necessary," the governor said.
