GOLKAR LAWMAKER URGES JUSUF KALLA TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT
Jakarta, Feb 6 (ANTARA) - Golka Party Party leader Jusuf Kalla should as soon as possible declare his preparedness to run for president in the upcoming general elections, a Golkar legislator said.
"Do not belittle Golkar because its human resources have great potential to win the presidential election this year. But why has the party's chairman remained content with being only Yudhoyono's running mate," House of Representatives (DPR) member Yuddi Chrisnandi told the press at the legislative building here on Friday.
He said Yudhoyono's camp was at present also considering an alternative running mate besides Kalla. Therefore, he said, Golkar should anticipate a possible breakup of the Yudhoyono-Kalla pair and immediately nominate its chairman for the presidency.
Chrisnandi said what the Golkar Party needed at present was Kalla's preparedness to be nominated for the presidency as soon as possible because the party would fully support him.
The DPR Commission I member said further that because Kalla had positioned himself as Yudhoyono's running mate, Golkar could not develop well and its political machine could not function optimally either.
Chrisnandi was certain that if Kalla was prepared to be nominated for the presidency, the party's cadres would be motivated to fight hard to garner at least 20 percent of the votes in the presidential election.
