Amnesty calls on Philippines to stop "War on Drugs"
BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) -- Amnesty International (AI) Thailand has submitted an open letter to the Philippines Embassy in Bangkok, demanding an end to the “War on Drugs” in the Philippines.
A group of activists from AI Thailand arrived at the embassy on Tuesday morning to present the open letter to the Philippines Justice Department, calling on the government to display clear opposition to the extrajudicial killings during its War on drugs, while asking the Filipino government to immediately carry out investigation on officials which have violated this regulations.
AI Thailand hoped that the message would be passed through to President Rodrigo Duterte and the 30th ASEAN Summit, which Philippines will host between April 26-29, 2017.
Piyanut Kotsan, director of AI Thailand said that Philippines' wars on drugs have caused over 7,000 people, including children, to be killed. (TNA)
